Vitae's approach to value generation begins with a unique discovery engine. Vitae was founded with the goal to create a paradigm breakthrough in the field of structure-based drug design. CONTOUR™, the result of that effort, delivers superior drug design precision, novelty and speed for our discovery efforts against known, high value biologic targets. This powerful and advanced discovery tool, in the hands of Vitae's accomplished drug hunting team, has yielded high value drug candidates in multiple therapeutic areas, each with very large commercial potential.

Vitae's first and lead program is in renin inhibition, an industry target of 30+ years for the treatment of high blood pressure and end organ protection. Less than 24 months after program initiation, Vitae identified novel, patentable inhibitors that overcame the decades old traditional roadblocks of low bioavailability and high synthetic complexity. This rapid success is paving the way for a potential new treatment standard for hypertension and end organ protection.

The company's other lead programs include 11beta-HSD1, a novel target of substantial industry interest for the treatment of diabetes and metabolic syndrome-related diseases such as dyslipidemia, high blood pressure and obesity. Vitae scientists again were able to rapidly identify novel, potent and selective compounds while overcoming established discovery challenges. These advances quickly attracted potential partners culminating in a collaboration agreement in 2007 with Boehringer Ingelheim.

In 2008, Vitae set out in earnest to discover beta-secretase (BACE) inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Within 14 months, Vitae discovered highly potent compounds that significantly lowered amyloid beta in the brain, in an animal model, on single doese oral administration. Again, these significant and rapid advancements attracted multiple partners interested in the program. In June 2009, a collaboration agreement was entered into withe Boehringer Ingelheim.

Vitae is well positioned to build upon these successes and currently has additional early discovery programs in a variety of therapeutic areas.
