Dr. Corvol' s appointments include Intern at the Hôpitaux de Paris (1964), International Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, United States (1969), Associate Professor at Broussais-Hôtel Dieu Medical School (1976), Chief of Arterial Hypertension at Hôpital Broussais (1986) and resident at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou until August 2007. At the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM), he managed the vascular pathology and renal endocrinology unit from 1983 to 2006. He is Director of the Biological Research Institute at Collège de France where he has been Professor of Experimental Medicine since 1989 and a Trustee since September 2006. His primary research interest has been the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) where his work led to the use of renin system inhibitors to treat cardiovascular disease. Currently, his research focuses on genetic causes of hypertension, angiogenesis, and modeling of the arterial wall. He is a past president of the French Hypertension Society, a Member of the French Academy of Sciences (1995), and Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1995). He has been the recipient of numerous honors, including Grand Prix Scientifique de la Ville de Paris, the Humboldt Award and Grand Prix INSERM for Medical Research 2006. He is a Commander of France's Légion d'Honneur and Commander of the National Order of Merit.
